What you should know about selecting your slabs

Can I view my Everlife™ granite slab prior to fabrication? Due to the variation found in natural stones, in-person slab views are encouraged and may be coordinated by your local Everlife™ dealer, through their corresponding slabyard. This not only assures that you are pleased with the color you have chosen, but may give you the ability to select the precise slab you desire prior to countertop fabrication and installation.

  1. “With anti-stain technology, worrisome maintenance for granite, marble, quartzite and soapstone is a thing of the past.”Soapstone is non-porous, and thus cannot be sealed even if you wanted to.

  2. Well, this is a reasonable question for the folks at Everlife, I would say. Absolute Black Granite, also non porous does not need sealing. By the way, why post as anonymous?

  3. The material property of Absolute Black is extremely dense, nothing will penetrate it, not even a sealer. As the late Maurizio Bertoli, a leader in the stone industry would say, “Every stone is different. For example, not all stones can be sealed. Pretending to seal them anyway is not only a total waste of time and money, but just plain WRONG!” Consumers who want to know if a stone needs sealing, should perform a “lemon juice (and oil) test” to determine the suitability of certain “granites” and other stones for their specific application. 4. You are very right in saying some tops may be denser than others and require different applications of sealer, but a absolute black top is not an except to the natural granite rule that granite is porous. period. Absolute Black may need a penetrant sealer to be applied due to the density and, another staining rule, the darker the granite, the more visible the hardwater stains. And since Black Absolute is on the more expensive side of granite tops, I wouldn’t take the risk of not applying a sealer. 5. I work with representatives from Everlife who state the Permashield process takes into account each stone’s characteristics and physical properties and is adjusted accordingly. The company ensures full coverage, penetration and protection based on the stone’s properties. For more detailed information, you may visit http://www.permashield.com. Yes, Black Absolute is very dense but it can accept sealers and in fact is often dyed by some slab producers. Everlife avoids dyed material as it can fade over time. The following facts about soapstone as stated on the Everlife stone website under Natural Stone section:Soapstone is composed largely of talc, which gives it the soapy feel, as well as chlorite, dolomite and magnetite. It is very dense and inert to acids and alkalis, making it a good countertop surface. Freshly quarried soapstone is light gray in color with some spots and patterning, and occasional light or dark veins. Your soapstone countertop will be oiled liberally with pure, clear mineral oil after installation. The oil should be allowed to sit for about an hour, and then the excess wiped off with a cloth. You should repeat this process weekly for a few months, decreasing the frequency to once a month and ultimately to three or four times a year as the stone remains naturally darker between oiling. This darkening also enhances the natural features and variations in the stone and it will eventually develop a rich deep patina. Though soapstone scratches easily, the scratches become quickly invisible with oiling, or use 80-grit sandpaper, if necessary, followed by an oily cloth. If you have any further questions, a customer service representative at Everlife will be happy to speak with you.
